Installing Vehicle Tracking Devices

a) The Installer must find a location for the Tracking device, it is important that:

  • The Tracking Device is installed in a dry, dust free environment. (This may involve installing the device in a water proof container), also always seal up any aerial and cable holes.
  • The Tracking Device, GPS and aerial are installed in a concealed manner, (This may involve installing the device in a location with the GPS and GSM aerials sited remotely).
  • The GPS aerial has good reception (It cannot be installed in an area shielded by metal but will operate successfully behind plastic, glass or vinyl’s).
  • The Cellular device has good transmission and reception, usually it will operate in a hidden environment behind but sometimes the aerial may need to be remotely installed, especially if the vehicle is likely to operate in areas with poor Cellular coverage.
  • The Tracking device is permanently and solidly fixed.
  • The Tracking device is powered up from the Fuse Board or Battery on a permanent power supply basis. (Check the Battery Voltage of the Vehicle is compatible with the voltage of the device you are installing)
  • The Tracking device’s battery is connected
  • In cars and trucks under the front dash is the ideal location and connect to the power fuse box (sometimes there is an available fuse)
  • In cars under the rear parcel tray is another possible location for the Tracking Device
  • In Machinery install the Device in the cab OR if there is no cab close to the Battery in an protected environment

b) The Installer should NOT install the Tracking device:

  • In a location that can easily found
  • In a location that can easily be tampered with or damaged
  • In a wet or dusty environment.
  • On a power circuit that is not continuously live
  • In a location that is vulnerable to damage
  • In a location that will get excess heat from the Engine or Exhaust Manifold

c) The Installer should NOT install the Aerial and GPS Receiver:

  • In a location that can easily found
  • In a location that can easily be tampered with
  • In an excessively wet or dusty environment.
  • In a location that is shielded by Metal (Critical for the GPS Receiver)

d) The Installer should NOT install Magnetic Tracking Devices:

  • In a location that can easily found
  • In a location that if the magnet falls off when the Vehicle Receives a sudden jolt is lost
  • In a location that can easily be tampered with or damaged
  • In a wet or dusty environment.
  • In a location that is vulnerable to damage

The more visible the GPS device is to the satellites the faster and more accurate the positioning.

Important: Wiring up the Polarity incorrectly may result in damage to the Tracking Device’s circuitry and will negate any Warranties

Connecting the Tracking Device to a Landing Platform

a) Connecting to our Managed Platform

  • The SIM card will already be installed in the Tracker
  • The Tracker will be pre-programmed
  • Before installation contact us at Tracking Products to organise the Service Plan you require and for us to Activate the SIM card
  • Once the Tracker is installed drive the vehicle down the road for 200 meters to ensure the location is updated and the System is working
  • At the completion of the installation the Installer MUST contact us at Tracking Systems 0800 770 771 to make sure the System is online and reporting correctly

b) Connecting to a Non Managed Platform where we supply the SIM Card

  • The SIM card will already be installed in the Tracker
  • The Tracker will be pre-programmed
  • Before installation contact us at Tracking Products for us to Activate the SIM Card
  • Once the Tracker is installed drive the vehicle down the road for 200 meters to ensure the location is updated and the System is working
  • At the completion of the installation the Installer MUST contact us at Tracking Systems 0800 770 771 to make sure the System is online and reporting correctly

c) Connecting to a Non Managed Platform where you supply the SIM card

  • Install your SIM Card
  • Enroll the Tracker on the Platform
  • Once the Tracker is installed drive the vehicle down the road for 200 meters to ensure the location is updated
  • Check that the System is online and reporting correctly
